Razar Dragons are, for the most part, a cliff loving species of dragons that come in a variety of material, colour and elements. Most have long necks which are used to full advantage, being able to look at any angle thanks to the muscles. Razar Dragons weigh first impressions the most, making them easy to befriend, but easy to anger as well. Razar Dragons are somewhat territorial once they've claimed an area as their domain. They are social though and will sometimes visit each other. Situations where they may be more territorial is when one dragon is challenging another. Most of the time, the visiting dragon to another territory will back down and leave. Razar Dragons are more open to the opposite gender visiting their territory in hopes of gaining a partner. A Razar will take advantage of their neck muscles to show off or empathise their strength. Females lay eggs in the situation of reproduction. Formation takes a week and laying the egg(s) takes about one day. It takes three years for an egg to hatch. Flying is an ability that offspring gain in less than a few days. Razar Dragons mature after 50 years, but some subtypes mature earlier.
Crane-like necks is the most defining factor of a Razar Dragon. Skin can be scales, feathers or plated. Material of surface varies a lot with subspecies, ranging from bone to metal to thread. Interesting material like cotton, sponge and gel have also been material their surface would be made of. Some subspecies will have appearance influenced by element in addition to their skin type. Identifying a Razar Dragon subtype is often deemed difficult, because some subtypes are capable of multiple appearances. Elementals in particular are known for this.
Males have the most variety in colour. Females have a sharper colour contrast. Many males also have a reflection colour whereas females colours are as is. Colour for each gender varies by subtype and element. It is not easy to define a subtype using colour alone.
Most Razar Dragons do not use clothing. One or two smaller subtypes have been observed wearing clothing. In these cases they wear fancy clothing that's typically ancient.
Razar Dragons have branched out to many different variations. Many of the evolutions that have occurred are tied to where a Razar Dragon has spent their time. In terms of mental evolution, the longest living subspecies tend to evolve the fastest, mostly because of the passing of 'sage advice' to younger generations.
Razar Dragons are assertive by nature. Initially they are reactive, waiting for a new entity to make the first move. They base their opinion on first impressions. It is easy to befriend or anger a Razar Dragon, so it's best that you are friendly and respectful to one, save for being hated for a decade or two. Razar Dragons claim territory once they take a liking to a place. They can challenge other Razar Dragons entering their territory. Most will back down when challenged, but some will put up a fight.
Razar Dragons use simple reasoning to carry out their actions. Equal respect, paid and given, is one example of this. Razar Dragons prefer to avoid situations where they could receive serious damage, hence often backing away from challenges in another territory. The defending of a nesting dragon is also a natural and reasonable habit done by the male Razar Dragon while the female tends to her egg(s). Their reasoning does not get too complex, so what actions you see are usually the result of something obvious.
Razar Dragons are typically alone or in pairs. However, they will sometimes head to another territory to have conversation with others of their kind. Some Razar Dragons also become friends, which triggers more frequent visiting. Aggressive Razar Dragons are less likely to have friends, as they are typically not socially compatible with others. They can still get partners though if they find an aggressive Razar Dragon of the opposite gender.
Razar Dragons speak in their own kind of dragonic language by default. There are a few subspecies that can speak English, but there are more than a few that speak other variations of dragonic. There are two subspecies that can also speak Spanish.
Razar Dragons operate on simple reasoning. Most species are moderately intelligent, with the ability to gather and learn from experience. The dragons with really long lifespans are the highest in terms of intellect, having a lot of experience. Razar Dragons have a learning curve that rises quickly at a young age, slows at mid-age (unless learning a lot of new things), then slowly starts to speed up as they steer towards elder age. Older dragons will rarely deal with memory problems, so there's no decrease in intellect, even near the end of a Razar Dragon's lifespan.
Razar Dragons are most often found in foothills and mountains. They are sometimes found in canyons and valleys. Areas with sudden weather changes are also an area that may attract Razar Dragons. Elemental subtypes have preference for areas that suit their element, though areas with their element alongside cliffsides are most desirable. Areas with static or slow changing weather are not preferred nor are areas that are overly flat, so you are unlikely to see a Razar Dragon living in the plains. The Moon subtype is only found at outdoor ruins during the night.
Razar Dragons love rapidly changing weather. Areas with thunderstorms, high winds or blizzards are among a few weather types that draw them. Elementals also prefer areas that suit their element, although they can still be found in environments that are opposite to their element. Razar Dragons often take flight in high wind events. They also love to fly through thunderstorms. Ice dragons can still fly over deserts as can fire dragons go fishing, so element doesn't absolutely restrict where Razar Dragons can go. A specific subtype has preference for ruins only and can only be seen during the night when the moon is out.
Toleration is more of what a Razar Dragon does to adapt to the environment. They don't often require much adaptation in order to get along with their surroundings. Their intellect and logic are the most noted of their adaptability, as they do learn from mistakes made.
Razar Dragons explore a lot if they do not possess a territory. They spend more time exploring areas with cliff sides compared to fields. Razar Dragons typically explore for just over a year after leaving their parents before finding a territory and settling. They may explore afterwards, but not very often if they do.
There is no mating season for Razar Dragons. The condition for seeking a partner is usually on a calm and clear day or night. Razar Dragons that are seeking a partner will put on a show. This show includes aerobatics while in the air. If a Razar Dragon wants to put on a show when on the ground or clinging to a cliff, they take advantage of their neck muscles to show off their neck movements. This is all to impress the other dragon. It is mostly males that will court (females don't typically cling to cliffs), but on occasion a female has been observed courting. Females like to add hitting the ground with their tail to the shows. When it comes to courting other species, a preference for a similar size is most common. There are three subspecies that are not picky on species or have similar size preferences. In these cases, females tend to be more attracted to smaller species and males more attracted to larger species.
When two Razar Dragons acquire a partnership with each other, they will rest their heads on each other's shoulders and wrap their wings around each other. They do this for some time the first time and periodically do it for a short time during the early part of the relationship to empathise it. Some time in the middle of the relationship, the female and male will start building a dragon's nest at the summit of a mountain (or a plateau surrounded by sharp cliffs). After about a year of being mates, they will initiate the usual way. Nearly all subspecies can reproduce with others of the same species. The Moon subspecies can only reproduce with a few other subspecies. Only a few subspecies can reproduce with those outside the Razar Dragon species.
A majority of Razar Dragon females will bear eggs. Eggs will form over a period of a week within the female dragon. It takes about one day for her to lay the eggs after they're ready. The female Razar Dragon will care for the eggs for up to three years, rarely leaving the nest. The male dragon will circle the mountain summit, keeping his partner safe. The male also heads out to gather food for her.
Offspring are cared for by the mother for up to fifty years, however, most of the nurturing occurs within the first few months. The male will bring food for the female and the children for the first week. The parents will start to encourage the children to start getting food afterwards, carrying them out of the nest often to teach them to hunt.
Baby Razar Dragons learn to fly within a few days. They are taught to hunt after about a week and learn the skill entirely within about 2 months. They are given bits of knowledge everyday, which builds to a lot of knowledge by the time they mature at the average year of 50. Subtypes with a shorter lifespan mature faster, as early as 26 years.
Male consists of grey-green feathers under the wings, a stronger green belly, green-yellow along the back. Feathers have a yellow tint to them when held to the sun. Female consists of green feathers under the wings, a sharp change to green under the belly, green along the back with a yellow pattern running down the back. There is no yellow tint on a female's feathers. Both have metalic feathers. Tail feathers are long for males and consist of a light green that shines yellow in the sunlight and glows slightly with a cyan tint in the moonlight. Females have yellow tail feathers, though shorter than males. Emolivial are found in mountainous areas like most Razar Dragons.
This subtype does not have a gender and it's appearnace is uniform. They have transparent metalic feathers with a watery underlayer to them. The entire subtype is invisible without moonlight. The moon will create a moon-coloured reflection and make it visible. Interestingly, due to the strange properties on this dragon, one could swim on the dragon, regardless of gravity, as the special watery layer holds the water where it is. When feathers are shed, they absorb colour as they get older, eventually becoming black, though moonlight will still cause them to glow. Moon subtypes also have a preference to sticking to a place like ruins. Moon subtypes are also said to be able to unseal scrolls and spells.
