As the Commander of Ceres' Ice Region's army, Yoru has quite a lot of battle experience. Due to many betrayals and murders of his friends and family in the past, Yoru has developed a rather harsh attitude, often refusing to trust others in the fear that he'll be hurt once again. Despite this setback, those who have befriended him often complain that Yoru is much too close to them, as he is wont to protecting those he truly cares about. His younger cousin, Mikage, often experiences the full degree of Yoru's protection (though, he doesn't seem to mind it that much...). To those Yoru befriends, he's often sarcastic and rude to, having grown accustomed to having vitriolic friendships (Kage included). However, he will act polite if he receives complaints about it.
In regards to strangers, Yoru often becomes a bit too heated, sometimes adopting a "hit first, question later" motto in the face of (what he perceives to be) danger. This has often netted him numerous complaints, though Yoru doesn't show any signs of caring if he feels he was justified.
Like most demons, Yoru's bread and butter is magic. As the Dark Lord of the Ice Region, he's somewhat bulkier than most of his peers defense-wise, and can actually strike quite hard due to his military training. Wielding the Revolving Fang gunblade his father was famous for, Yoru completes his skill set with an unusual affinity for heavy weaponry thanks to his extensive training. In addition, Yoru keeps numerous small weapons and projectiles hidden in his trenchcoat, though he won't use these until he feels a distraction is absolutely necessary.
He and Kage often fight together in battle and outside of it. As a Battle Duo, they can be quite a menace, often destroying the terrain without thought. Outside of battle, they can often be found bickering at a jab the other has given them. They do respect one another, however unlikely it may seem.
In his third life, he continues to act as the defense for the team, often sacrificing his own health and safety to keep his friends and family safe.
Now that Ragnarok's Call has passed by successfully, Yoru has a bit more respect for Takuto and his family, although he still doesn't hesitate to taunt the Esper Lord by any means. Yoru has become a bit less cynical in his renewed life, although he's still fairly difficult to befriend closely. He seems a bit calmer in his new life, now that Mikage has been allowed to grow rather than to become depressed from Takuto's former death.
After Dimenda rebirthed Tsukuyomi, Yomi was quick to claim both Mikan and Yoru as her Mates. Given a pouch via Yomi's stinger-tentacle, he eventually bore Lazeli, who shares Yomi's facial appearance and his physical features. Though it seems that he's begrugingly kept her, in secret, he's rather proud of her existence.
Unfortunately for Yomi, her death affected Yoru far more than he lets anyone know. As a result, anytime the subject of marriage or even a (loving) relationship is brought up between them, he becomes awkward and even a bit distant. While Yomi seems happy enough to raise a family with him and to live with him, he still feels immense guilt and confusion, and has been acting a bit short lately as a result.
Since he and Mikan have promised to visit Vulcan a second time and to stay with Yomi, Yoru has been mulling over his past greatly recently, since their memories will be wiped when they visit Vulcan again. Though these memories will return if he ever visits Ceres again (with his memories on Vulcan being erased and able to be recovered via visiting Vulcan again, and etcetera), Yoru considers such a thing as death, and has had a lot of morbid thoughts as a result. This also adds to his awkwardness around Yomi and with Mikan. Thankfully, his memories of having a connection with someone (be it Kage, who he Marked, or Mikan) will be retained, but the origin and resulting memories of their interactions will not be. Knowing he'll only remember what happens on Vulcan if he visits the Overworld again (without visiting Ceres) has also added to his stress. Even so, he has no intention of backing away from his promise to Yomi at all, and accepts his fate.
Recently, Yoru has revealed his True Companion, Fang, who normally takes on the form of his Revolving Fang gunblade. The gunblade (and thus Fang) were given to him by his father. As such, Fang has the fiery temper of both Siri AND Yoru fueling him, even if he's now bonded to Yoru. Though Fang always talks and looks angry, he is quite able to feel and say other emotions and sentiments. Fang takes the form of a small navy-blue Duragon with tiny horns and potent fangs. True to form, his main weapon is his fangs, though he has quite the assortment of Dark and Flame spells at his snout tip. Because of Yoru's complex past, Fang is equal parts Dark and Flame strong, which is unusual for a True Companion (who normally is only strong in their Master's primary element). Fang is rarely summoned, and looks forward to visiting Para (Kage's True Companion) when he is. He's quite obedient despite how annoying he can get (to Yoru anyway).
More recently, after Mikan's supposed passing, Yoru withdrew from the Overworld and returned to Ceres a sullen, nearly broken version of himself. After the Shadow Prince rescued her, however, Yoru has been recovering slowly, but will likely never want to set foot back on the Overworld again for fear of losing Mikan permanently.
An older reference pic of Yoru.
A sketch of Yoru in his original life being raised with Kage. It's worth noting he only used guns in that life, since Gunblades hadn't been really invented yet. Evidently, he was quite a troublesome youth. (The scar on his face is in the exact same spot it is on the Yoru the group knows.)
