Fusion is the joining of two magical forms or two physical beings. It was first performed ages ago by a summoner and their summon. The first try was successful, but imitators soon followed. This was when the dangers of reckless fusion became very apparent. Fusion was taken to the next level when two non-summons tried the art. It took two attempts to succeed. With two random individuals the chances of a successful fusion are 20%. A second attempt is 65%, third at 80%, 85%, then 90% thereafter. When two people are fusion compatible, where their magical or soul bonds are super strong, a first attempt could be as high as a 90%, followed by a 98% chance, then 100% chance of success after. Fusion was soon brought as a belief by some and a symbol of love by others.
A big influence on initial success rates involve the relations between two beings. Single Bonds will not suffice, as they are for when magic or soul is drawn to one, but not one drawn to individual. Single Battle Bonds and Single Passive Bonds will also not suffice, as they still only work one way or the other and not both. Mutual Battle Bonds will increase the chance of fusion success during battle, as both magic bodies or souls are drawn to each other. Mutual Passive Bonds are okay, but not very practical, as fusion success is only increased outside of battle, typically in a state of relaxation. Full Bonds are the best of them all, because magics or souls are always interacting with each other. The stronger a mutual bond, the better chance of a successful fusion. At this time there has been no recorded success of fusions from Triple Bonds, which is when magic interacts with two others, rather than one. These bonds are rare to begin with, so the dangers behind these are not yet known.
Fusions have another strange side to them as to the results of a successful fusion. Massive stat increases are predictable, but the strange factor comes into the merging of two mentalities. The fused pair have the ability to interact with each other's thoughts, however this typically does no harm if the fusion succeeds fully, as their thoughts maintain knowledge of their former position in the mind. This may result in secrets being known though ... however, some learned secrets may be lost to the learner when the fusion ends. The fusion of two genders also counts for a complicated part of fusion. The most likely outcome is having two genders, however sometimes one gender gains precedence over another. A fully successful fusion will not result in no gender (unless both are no gender) or in an unknown gender (indicates fusion failure). Traits from each gender can vary (body shape, organs, etc.). In some cases of fusion, new properties could kick in that are not part of either of your originals, but are compatible with both of you together. In the case of blood type, it will be one or the other for blood type.
Many different things can go wrong with fusion if you are unsuccessful. You could mutate into a hideous being, destroy the other and yourself, genetic defects, perma-fusion (when both souls literally become one soul), improperly fused organs, unknown gender, mental disorders, etherical malfunction (when magics fail to work properly or become out of control) and many other problems beyond that list. This is why some places consider fusion a forbidden art.
According to Sectoral Leader Cody, fusion is performed in five steps. The first step is to adapt an ideal frame of mind. The second step is to focus, which involves preparing the magical bodies of each other for a command. The third step is to focus on the target that the magic will interact with. When step four begins, there's no going back on the fusion attempt. Step four involves issuing the command, where the magics go to each other and interact. With this occurring, fusion will start almost naturally. The fifth step is to maintain that frame of mind that you had when the fusion started with. With 90% fusion rates, usually the 10% that fail don't follow all these steps correctly. To diffuse, all you have to do is think individually. If one, the other or both do this, the fusion will end. Fusion ends rarely fail at all unless the fusion start failed in some sort of way.
