Ranks
Ranks of the CFF follow the same layout as the Sectoral Enforcement Squad. However, there is a difference in how ranks are chosen with the CFF. Firstly, when you show an adequate amount of potential you may be chosen to join the CFF. You can also get into the CFF upon interest, but there is more of a process for this and you will enter with the "In training" rank. The "In training" rank works differently in the CFF as it seems to symbolize "unproven". Once you meet the expectations of the CFF, typically assigned by an officer or higher rank, you will rank up to Junior Recruit.
To rank up in the CFF, one must prove their strength in a battle of the fittest. An opponent is considered "downed" if they are unable to recover from an attack within 5 seconds.
Standard Brawls - Each rank tier holds a different class of matches. Junior Recruits and Senior Recruits, as an example, participate in the same event. The standard match has all participants placed onto a large arena (simply called a "map") and depending on who is "downed" in whatever order determines who ranks up and who does not. In the Recruit tier you cannot lose a rank. Dome Guard is the next tier, which includes the junior, intermediate and senior ranks. All three of these ranks are able to participate in the standard matches. A Senior Champion Guard must defend their title at least once in order to be eligible for a rank up. It should be noted that "Dome" is replaced with "Champion" in terms of rank names to reflect the sector they are in. The next tier is the Officer tier, from Transition Officer to 2nd order to 1st order. In this tier Officer 1st order can lose a rank if they place within the last 10% of participants in a standard Brawl event. Officer 1st Order must also defend their title for three standard brawls in order to be eligible for the next rank. The Junior Sectoral tier consists of Sectoral Scout, Sectoral Shield, Sectoral Sword and Sectoral Tactician. All four of these tiers can participate in a Standard Brawl at the same time, however you cannot obtain the Sectoral Tactician rank through this way. Sectoral Tactician is given by anyone of equal or higher rank who possesses the skillset for such a rank. This rank can also be obtained through a duel with someone already possessing this rank, but this kind of duel is a test of tactics, not might. The Senior Sectoral tier are ranks only obtainable via duels. Standard Brawls may still be held, but are mostly for fun. In the event the Sectoral Leader finds the Senior Sectoral Tier unbalanced, they may hold an actual Standard Brawl, but such events are uncommon. When these kind of events do happen, placement in the competition determines rank. This means one can gain up to two ranks or lose up to two depending on where they are in the tier.
In addition to standard brawls, there is a tournament once a year consisting of many one on one matches. These can greatly influence one's rank. While participation is voluntary, it is often considered a cultural norm to enter one of these if you are part of the CFF. Depending on how far you make it in one of these events, it is possible to climb right to the top of the ranks ... if you are strong enough to become a champion. It is important to note that there is an additional requirement to become a Sectoral Leader, even if you were to win the championship.
The third way to gain ranks is by challenging someone to a duel. However there is a code regarding the appropriate time for one. Firstly, participating in a Standard Brawl gives you one month of duel immunity, whether you win or lose. Secondly, participating in the annual tourney grants you three months of duel immunity, unless there is reasonable grounds that foul play was involved. Thirdly, you cannot challenge the same person (wagering ranks) for one year after dueling them. It is also important to note that you cannot outright challenge a high rank to a duel if you lack the reputation. Taking part in Standard Brawls and tourneys and winning get you these alongside the good deeds you do for the CFF and the people they look after. If you win a duel against someone of a higher rank, you gain that rank and they lose a rank. A higher rank can challenge a lower rank to a duel, however this is only going to affect reputation and the reputation gained is lower when you challenge a lower rank to a duel. Duels between other tiers must be spectated by at least one sectoral tier (Junior or Senior).
This style of ranking can cause confusion among people within the CFF at times, but the senior ranks are usually quick to process the rank changes and rank changes are immediately applied to the uniforms which people changed ranks with. There are two ranks that cannot be challenged to normal duels.
Sectoral Tacticians can only be challenged to a special Tactical Duel, where two small armies are pitted against each other. All army units involved will gain reputation points by participating. Tactic challenges can vary from keeping certain buildings safe to keeping an important unit healthy to defeating all opposing units.
The Sectoral Leader cannot be challenged to a duel. They can only be fought in annual tourneys. The Sectoral Leader can be challenged to a duel by the champion of the event upon request or in the event of the Sectoral Leader entering the annual tourney themselves. Usually a Sectoral Leader only enters a tourney if they are planning to retire.
There is a rule requiring a lot of reputation to challenge someone significantly above your tier. Typically only officers or higher can challenge the Sectoral tier, but if a lower tier has acquired a lot of reputation they may be permitted to challenge a sectoral.
